Bits of a conversation between strangers becoming acquaintances.  by risa

Well, people contribute some online, but for the most part we have
interviewers all over the US going out and interviewing people — friends,
family, strangers. That’s where most of the material comes from. I manage
them, and then yeah I put the manuscript through the first edit, giving it
form and whatnot. It’s actually pretty fun to hear other people’s stories.
You can learn a lot from it. We need the books to sell more, though …
Please feel free to contribute anything. I’m sure you could write up
something great for us.

Novels: Glutton for punishment, are ya? The one I already wrote is a
Freudian spy novel called My Communist Mother. Washington boy-man finds out
his mother is spying for the Chinese. His entire life collapses after that,
and there’s some great sex scenes with his girlfriend, who is … I probably
shouldn’t tell you everything. But it also deals with the Atari 2600 pretty
extensively.

Short stories are my favorite means of expression. You can get away with so
much more in one of those things, and they are a world unto themselves. I
just bought the Atlantic Fiction Issue. I hope it doesn’t suck.

Last night, there was a thunderstorm that raged through Atlanta about
midnight. Lots of trees fall when that happens here. Some people get killed
by the falling trees. No kidding. And a huge tree that fell last night
landed in the backyard of my sister-in-law, where she and her husband have
goats (in the city, yes). The goats survived, somehow. But the place is a
wreck. They (the goats) are staying in the neighbor’s backyard for now.
That’s your update from the South, where it is 93 degrees.
