Go Linux Go Green by risa
Ahh Treehugger, supporting those guys sneakily bringing the peeps around to the wide and wonderful world of open source…
Microsoft’s Vista is taking a beating. It’s expensive. Greenpeace says it’s going to generate mountains of eWaste by trashing at least 10 million PCs. Here’s an idea – why don’t you try what this guy did to his dad; upgrade your users to Ubuntu and tell them that it’s Vista? You’ll probably get twice the life out of your machines, and since your users are prepped for a change already, it’s a golden moment. Go Linux, and go green.
Another green twisting of the open source logic (and there are many, though they’re subtle) is what Lulu does with print on demand. Instead of going through a self-publishing company that makes you buy 500 copies, why not buy as many as you need, and let whoever wants a copy buy one too? Lulu will print them for you when you need them “on demand” and you’ll have more room in your garage for other stuff besides books.. Now, if lulu only offered a goodly green paper option we’d be all set..
