Speaking about Open at FACIL. by risa
This month, FACIL presents:
Robin Millette with a review of the free software community in Quebec. This tour will describe about sixty organizations, research centers, newspapers and other groups dealing with free software. This represents an ideal opportunity to discover the extent of this vast community. This part will be in French but questions and answers can be done in English too.
Second, Risa Dickens will present Open Journal, founded in 2004 in order to incorporate philosophies, processes and programs from the open source world of computing into discourses about communications
theory, literature, politics and art. The presentation will therefore explain some of the relationships between communication/organization patterns as they occur in government, corporate culture, universities, and
the press, by juxtaposing these with the history of software development – especially the open source process. This part will be in English but questions and answers can be done in French too.
The presentations will be be held on Thursday September 15th 2005, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. They will be at the CRIM, 550 Sherbrooke Ouest, Suite 100, near McGill metro. For more information:

(p.s. I didn’t write the invite. The (very nice) person who did included bits from my description of my thesis and made my little talk sound incredibly grandiose..gulp! oh well.)
